The participants will be provided with breakfast and dinner on weekdays and all three meals on weekends by their host families. The ¥70,000 homestay fee will be paid by HIF to the host family.

*HIF does not provide financial assistance or scholarships for tuition, homestay, travel costs or living expenses. Your home institution may provide financial assistance. Please contact your study-abroad program director for further information.

Payment Schedule

1) Application Fee: Please enclose with application forms.
(INTERNATIONAL postal money order or bank money order only please)
2) Tuition: Deadline is April 6 (JST*) by bank transfer.
3) Travel Plan Fee: Deadline is April 6 (JST) by bank transfer if you intend to use the Group Travel Plan.

Refund Policy

If an applicant withdraws from the program earlier than April 6, 2010 (JST), the total tuition and homestay fee will be refunded. In withdrawals on or after April 6, HIF will refund the total paid amount, less the cancellation fees stated below. The applicant who wishes to withdraw must inform HIF by facsimile or e-mail. The refund will be made by bank transfer. HIF will make no tuition refunds if cancellations are made on or after Thursday, June 10, 2010 (00:00 JST).

*The refund of the homestay fee will be assessed per-diem if you withdraw after you have started living with your host family.

Additional Expenses

The following costs are estimated of personal expenses over the 8-week period. Actual costs may vary according to participants' personal needs. Participants who plan a trip to Sapporo during the 4-day semester break should expect to incur higher "personal expenses".

* Participants who commute from distant areas will receive a subsidy from HIF;
participants are not expected to pay more than ¥8,000 for 8 weeks.

Travel Arrangements

Participants must make their own arrangement to travel between their home countries and Japan, as well as domestic transportation between Hakodate and Tokyo/Kansai international airports. Guided group travel plans from Tokyo International Airport to Hakodate will be provided by HIF. Successful applicants will receive information on the Group Travel Plan upon acceptance to the program.
